Promete un voto extra por la naturaleza / Pledge an extra VOW for Nature

QUÉ: Esta es una oportunidad para parejas sensiblemente preocupadas por el bienestar del planeta y que deseen compensar parte de la huella ecológica asociada a los eventos de su boda lo puedan hacer, sea sembrando o adoptando árboles de los bosques de la Reserva de la Biosfera Mariposa Monarca para que sean cuidados por las comunidades indígenas locales.

POR QUÉ: El planeta está enfermo debido al alto impacto que las actividades humanas están teniendo sobre los recursos naturales. Nuestra especie está alterando los procesos naturales con la contaminación, el agotamiento de los recursos, la extinción de especies, la sobrepoblación, la deforestación, etc. De hecho, nuestro ritmo actual de uso de los recursos naturales revela que consumimos el doble de recursos naturales que los que nuestro planeta ofrece de forma natural, por lo que estamos provocando un déficit alarmante. A la Tierra no se le da tiempo para recuperarse del uso intensivo y no hay reposición natural. Sin embargo, así como somos parte del problema, así también podemos ser parte de la solución.

PARA QUÉ: Al contribuir a proteger y ampliar los bosques estamos ayudando a que la naturaleza nos ayude. Los árboles limpian el aire, absorben el carbono, ayudan a infiltrar y evaporar el agua, protegen el suelo, son el hogar de una gran diversidad de especies vegetales, animales y de hongos, una comunidad natural que proporciona al planeta y a nosotros, múltiples servicios ambientales como los mencionados. El costo de la prevención es mucho menor que el de la remediación, por lo que incluso una modesta contribución para que los propietarios de los bosques, les protejan mejor, es bastante relevante.

PARA QUIÉN: La compensación de la huella ecológica de un evento de Boda tiene múltiples beneficiarios: En primer lugar, las comunidades indígenas propietarias de los bosques, que tendrán ingresos que les ayudarán a estar preparados y actuar en la protección activa del bosque (vigilancia, monitoreo, prevención y combate de plagas y de incendios en caso de que se produzcan, entre otras actividades).  En segundo lugar, las plantas y los animales que viven en el bosque y aquellas que lo visitan temporalmente, como el espectacular fenómeno único que tiene lugar en esta reserva, la migración de las Mariposas Monarca desde Canadá y el norte de Estados Unidos a su refugio de invierno en estos bosques. Pero al final de cuentas, toda la humanidad se beneficia de la conservación de los bosques al ayudar a restaurar la naturaleza y permitir que los ecosistemas naturales presten los servicios ambientales que hacen posible la vida sobre el planeta, de los humanos y las demás especies.

QUIÉNES: Todo el mundo puede actuar y ayudar. En este programa invitamos a las parejas a comprometerse con un voto adicional, por la naturaleza, por el planeta. A través de este programa (Voluntarily Offset Wedding) y a través de la pareja, también contribuyen los proveedores e indirectamente todos los asistentes a su boda.

CON QUIENES: Los novios deciden, con planificadora de bodas y proveedores los eventos que desean compensar. FAUNAM calcula huella ecológica de los eventos seleccionados para que los Novios/Planificadora/Proveedores aporten donativo. FAUNAM canaliza el donativo a ALTERNARE y a la comunidad CARPINTEROS. Posteriormente, FAUNAM supervisa a ALTERNARE, quienes a su vez supervisan a CARPINTEROS que son quienes se encargan de cuidar los árboles sembrados y el bosque.

WHAT: This project is an opportunity for sensible couples willing to compensate part of the ecological footprint associated to their wedding events by adopting a grove of trees amidst the forests of the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve to be safeguarded by the local indigenous communities.

WHY: The planet is sick due to the high impact that human activities are having on the natural resources. Our species is disrupting natural processes with pollution, resource depletion, species extinction, overpopulation, deforestation, etcetera. In fact, our current rate of natural resources usage reveals that we consume twice as many natural resources than those our planet naturally offers, hence we are causing an alarming deficit. Earth is not given time to recover from the heavy use and natural replenishment is not happening. Yet, as we are part of the problem we can also be part of the solution.

WHAT FOR: By contributing to protect and expand the forests we are helping nature help us. The trees clean the air, absorb carbon, help infiltrate and evaporate water, protect the soil, are home to a wide diversity of plant, animal and fungi species, a natural community that provide us and the planet multiple environmental services like those mentioned.  The cost of prevention is lot smaller than the cost of remediation, hence, even modest contributions to the owners of the forests, to enable them to protect them better is quite relevant.

FOR WHOM: The offsetting of the ecological footprint of a Wedding event has multiple beneficiaries: First of all the indigenous communities owners of the forests, that will have come income to help them be prepared and act on actively protecting the forest (fire prevention and combat in the event it happens, among other activities), naturally plants and animals that live in the forest and that visit the forest eventually, like the unique phenomena taking place in these forests, the migration of the Monarch Butterflies from Canada and Northern United States to their wintering haven in these forest. But in the end, whole humankind benefits from the conservation of the forests, for helping the ecosystems provide their expected environmental services, for helping restore nature.

WHO: Everybody can take action and help. In this particular scheme we are inviting the couples to pledge an extra VOW, for nature, for the planet. Through this programme (Voluntarily Offset Wedding) through them, all the attendees to their wedding are indirectly contributing too.

WITH WHOM: The couple decides, with the assistance of the wedding planner and the suppliers the events they wish to compensate. FAUNAM calculates, considering the nature and characteristics of the events, the actual ecological footprint that ought to be mitigated. Then the couple/wedding planner/suppliers can decide how much they wish to offset and therefore donate. FAUNAM channels the donation to ALTERNARE and the indigenous community of CARPINTEROS. Thereafter FAUNAM supervises ALTERNARE, whom in turn monitor the work of CARPINTEROS, which are the people directly in charge of planting and caring for the trees and standing forests.
